DIY Christmas Advent Calendar

With under a month to go until Christmas I’ve started getting organised for the big day and we finally put up our Christmas tree this week. Although it does need a few new decorations which I’m heading to Target for this week, the fairy lights are on and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! One of my favourite things is the lead up and more specifically advent calendars. I love to count down the days and since we have so many birthdays in December in my family, the month seems to fly by so quickly, so I like to cherish those few minutes each morning to open up what’s inside each days door. In years past my parents have always bought my sister and I either a chocolate advent calendar or more recently one of the many, many beauty calendars out there. These are often pretty pricey and after a few years of receiving them I don’t really find myself getting a great deal of usage from the products inside and so I came up with the idea to create my own. Of course my Mum and Dad still bought us an edible advent calendar but this year I wanted something of my own and a little #treatyoself gift each day.

I had seen an idea on Etsy for how to create my own advent calendar and since I still had loads of leftover boxes from my monthly wellness doTERRA boxes that I keep, I had more than enough cardboard to make it. So with that in mind I wrote a list of a few bits and pieces I either had wanted to try for a while or needed to restock in my makeup collection. I originally had set myself a small budget but that soon went out the window when I thought I may as well purchase things I will actually use, rather than just mini versions of random products. I had so much fun making this little DIY Christmas advent calendar and although it may not be the prettiest of things, I know I’ll really enjoy opening up each door to something I’m gonna love and use. As for what I included inside it’s a real mix of beauty, essential oils and a few nice pieces of jewellery I picked up in the November Click Frenzy sale. But you could totally customise the contents to whatever you want, I’ve even seen someone put little mini bottles of alcohol inside – perfect for the men in your life! A few great ideas you could do are: different types of cheese, lollies and/or chocolate, essential oils, stationery, activity coupons, soft kids toys or even Christmas tree ornaments.
