As part of my new years resolution to switch over to more natural beauty products I thought I’d share a few new bits I picked up recently and give you an update on what’s going on with my skin and the current routine I’m following. Aside from the excess booze and sugar consumed over the festive period my skin has been glowing and the only thing I can put that down to is the new skincare brand I’m using, an interesting beauty tool and drinking a lot more water.
This new skincare brand I keep harping on about is Sukin, an affordable Australian natural skincare range. If I’m honest I haven’t really heard too much about this brand and I’m not really sure what made me pick it up. I’d been shopping around for more natural and vegan-friendly skincare options that were available in the drugstore and I stumbled upon this one – I think I read once that Jennifer Hawkins uses it. I purchased the Cream Cleanser and the Super Greens Detoxifying Facial Scrub and have been using them religiously ever since. I wash my face morning and night with the cleanser which is full of natural oils like rosehip, avocado and wheatgerm. Afterwards I rinse off with cold water and pat my face dry with a flannel. I love how calming it feels on the skin and doesn’t leave me with a break out of redness like many other cleansing products do. As for the scrub I tend to keep this in my shower and use it every other day or if my skin if feeling particularly congested. If the whole natural thing isn’t a huge selling point for you then let me just tell you that this scrub smells exactly like a roll of Fruit Tingles – remember those fizzy lollies that came in party bags as kids?
In the mornings after cleansing I’ll tone with a cotton pad drenched in witch hazel all over my face. I had no idea that witch hazel has so many benefits as a natural healer and can be used for: psoriasis, eczema, in-grown nails, skin irritations, insect bites and more. I’m not so strict with this step and tend to only apply it a couple times a week. For moisturiser I’m still using the Clean & Clear Essentials Moisturiser which probably isn’t the most natural of moisturisers out there but I want to finish it up before looking into buying a new one. Recommendations anyone?
The evenings are my favourite when it comes to my beauty routine. Firstly this is when I shower, so once I’m out I’m ready to go all in on the product application. Firstly I’ll start with a decent drop of my new love The Body Shop Drops Of Youth Concentrate and work it well into my face, down my neck and chest using my favourite Christmas present from my Mum, a rose quartz facial roller – GAME CHANGER. I have always been so sceptical about the jade/rose quartz/stone facial rollers and it wasn’t until I gave it a good go that I started noticing a dramatic difference in the complexion of my skin. Everything was starting to look more plump and radiant. Some of the benefits from using a facial roller include: reduces stress, tension and puffiness, wrinkles and fine lines begin to even out and it cools and soothes the skin. I find it to be the perfect ending to a long day, laying in bed having a quick roll out just before going to sleep, and usually in the morning I wake up looking very refreshed. Lastly I pop a pea-sized amount of my holy grail all-purpose balm, the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, all over my lips and any other dry patches on my face.
